Apartment Interior Design Abu Dhabi: Wardrobes with Better Daily Access

Plan apartment wardrobes in Abu Dhabi around clothing types, reachable storage, door operation and a clear dressing routine.

The essential idea

A wardrobe should be designed from the belongings inward, not from the door finish outward. Measure the clothing, shoes and accessories that need storage, then allocate reachable everyday spaces and separate occasional storage. Test doors, drawers, lighting and the standing area together before approving the joinery.

More wardrobe volume does not necessarily mean better organisation. Deep shelves can hide belongings, drawers may open into the bed, and long garments may have no suitable hanging space. For an Abu Dhabi apartment, wardrobe planning should respond to the resident's actual clothing and routines. A clear inventory makes the design more useful than a standard combination of shelves and rails.

Make a practical clothing inventory

Group items by how they are stored: long hanging, short hanging, folded, shoes, bags and small accessories. Measure representative pieces rather than estimating from a photograph. Include the belongings that are awkward to store, such as luggage or formal garments.

Also note which items are used daily and which are occasional. This helps assign the most convenient positions to the things that matter most, instead of distributing every category evenly.

Design for the person using the storage

Reach, grip and visibility vary between people. A high shelf may be suitable for occasional storage but inconvenient for a daily bag. Pull-out fittings can help in some situations, but they need to be tested for effort, reliability and usable space.

If two people share the wardrobe, consider distinct areas. This can simplify the morning routine and make it easier to adjust one side later without reorganising everything.

Compare door systems honestly

Hinged doors provide a clear view of a section but need swing space. Sliding doors can reduce that swing, while limiting how much of the interior is open at one time. Neither option removes the need for space in front of the wardrobe.

Check handles, nearby walls and the bed together. For sliding systems, review track cleaning and adjustment. For hinged units, confirm that an open door does not prevent access to a drawer or adjacent compartment.

Give each internal fitting a job

Specialist fittings are useful when they solve a real storage need. A large number of small accessories can reduce flexibility and increase complexity. Start with the simplest arrangement that accommodates the inventory.

BelongingStorage question
Long garmentsIs the hanging drop sufficient?
Folded clothingCan the back of the shelf be reached?
ShoesAre the actual pairs visible and accessible?
Jewellery and small itemsAre dividers useful and easy to clean?
LuggageCan it be removed without emptying another section?

Coordinate light and maintenance

Wardrobe lighting should make belongings easier to see without placing glare at eye level. Discuss where fittings, cables and power components will sit, and how they can be maintained. Integrated lighting should not become inaccessible once the cabinet is installed.

Choose internal finishes that make cleaning practical and allow you to see stored items clearly. Confirm the care instructions for the selected materials, especially where bags, footwear or recently worn clothing will be placed.

Review a detailed internal drawing

Before production, request drawings showing the inside as well as the external elevation. Check clear internal dimensions after accounting for panels, hinges, runners and fittings. A nominal cabinet width is not the same as the storage space it provides.

At installation, open every door and drawer and load a representative selection of belongings. Record any adjustment needed while the installer is present. A wardrobe is complete when the daily routine works smoothly, not simply when the fronts align attractively.

Common questions

Are sliding wardrobes always better in a small bedroom?

Not necessarily. They can reduce door swing, but they may restrict access to part of the wardrobe. Compare the complete operation with a hinged option using the actual bed position and standing space. Storage convenience matters as much as the closed appearance.

How much spare wardrobe capacity should I allow?

There is no universal percentage that fits every household. Review expected changes in clothing, luggage and household use, then identify adjustable areas. A modest amount of flexible storage can be more useful than a large fixed compartment with no clear purpose.
